Sugar – Social Issue

What is my design problem? – ideas
Sugar intake in New Zealand continues to increase as the community are still unaware of the ingredients that they are consuming daily? or do they just not want to know?

Sugary drinks are becoming bitter sweet as New Zealanders are as bad as the rest when it comes to consuming the toxic sweetener. The dental health of young children continues to be among the worst in the developed world.

Tooth decay rates are rising. Over the last decade, tooth decay rates in New Zealand have continued to rise as a result of our overconsumption of sugar. Our bodies require sugar but not at the rate that we are consuming, this is having a detriment effect on our children’s health.

Toddlers as young as two years old are having all their teeth removed and hospitals are struggling to keep up with dental surgery as sugary drinks are taking a huge toll on
their teeth.

More than a 1/4 of the sugar in our children’s diets come from sugar drinks. Sugary drinks provide the same amount of energy as solid food, but without the nutrients, therefore leaving the children hungry and still full
of sugar.
